Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic conditions which involve inflammation of the intestinal canal collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis only affects the colon whereas Crohn’s disease can affect any part of the digestive system.

Symptoms of IBD include:

  • Regular urgency to empty the bowels
  • Pain, cramps or swelling of the stomach
  • Repeated or bloody diarrhoea
  • Weight loss
  • Extreme tiredness
