Our Bones & Joints Clinical Studies
Bones and joints are part of our musculoskeletal system and they provide the framework for the body to move. A joint is where two or more bones come together and are held in place by muscles and tendons such as the knee. Bones and joints may be affected by painful conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, tendonitis and rheumatoid arthritis. The most common condition affecting joints is arthritis which causes inflammation of a joint resulting in pain, stiffness and swelling and over time the joint can become damaged.
The most common condition affecting bones is osteoporosis which is caused by a reduction in bone mass. This makes the bones become weak and both men and women may suffer from osteoporosis although it is more common in women. Losing bone mass is a natural part of aging however it may be excessive in some people who end up developing osteoporosis. This means your bones become weak and are more likely to have fractures and damage.
We regularly conduct clinical research studies into osteoporosis or studies evaluating the risk of developing osteoporosis, as well as clinical studies for arthritis. Our state of the art DEXA scanning machines help with the accurate diagnosis of osteoporosis and monitoring of patients who are at risk of developing osteoporosis. Details of our current studies are listed below.
